R.J. King Fisheries Limited is a small, family business founded by Raymond J. King nearly five decades ago.  Starting out with a small lobster boat, the company eventually ended up in the shrimp business.  

In the 70s, lobster fishing wasn’t very lucrative, so the lobster boat was sold to purchase a  fish dragger to fish for ground fish (cod, haddock, pollock etc.)

In 1992, due to ground fish quota cuts, we started fishing cold water shrimp.  After a short time, we discovered that processing shrimp at sea would be much more feasible than selling them raw, so we equipped our 65 foot m.v. Final Venture, to do just that.   

In the early 2000s, we upgraded once again to a 76 foot former herring seiner, the m.v. Island Bounty, which we also equipped to process shrimp at sea.  Having a much larger holding capacity, this allowed the vessel to stay at sea for longer periods, reducing the number of trips traveling to and from the fishing grounds.
